Path 1: Today's A Hard Day
Oh, I hate that today's a hard day for you! Maybe it's because of the absence or presence of family or partnership. Maybe it's the sense that the culture pauses every, single year to celebrate something that doesn't align with your values or your budget. Maybe it's hard for a reason you can't even explain. Whatever the reason, today is a hard day.
Your feelings are valid.
You are not alone in your sense of alienation, resentment, disappointment, sadness or anger.
Today - like every holiday - serves a cultural purpose: it is "holi" (or "holy") because it serves to celebrate the values of the society in which one resides and the people who successfully abide by those values. If you're not in that camp - whether it's because you're plus-size, queer, or disabled, whether you chose to be outside that camp or you feel forced out of it - today can be hard.
Three years ago I spent Christmas alone in the middle of the desert. Dramatic? Always! I wanted to do the scariest thing imaginable: lean all the way into the worst feelings of failure and loneliness. It was hard. Hard isn't always bad, though - even when we haven't chosen it.
The point is: I'm thinking of you. I know how you feel.
I chose 2 cards for you, Hard Day Haver :) One is from a new tarot deck, called Gold Lyre. The other is from a deck I got at Marshall's this one time, called Mindful Mornings. Ready?
Gool ol' Temperance (which we discussed in 201 this week!) wants you to remain positive as the unknown unfold. Our brains are evolved to anticipate the worst (and if you've got trauma, double that!), but try presuming that you'll land on your feet instead of catastrophizing. Interpret Do Some Simple Stretching however you like. I know diet culture has totally coopted stretching (even seeing the card I'd pulled gave me a little flashback in a bad way), but I'd interpret this card to mean: move your body in a way that feels joyful and comforting. Remember: you have the medicine you need in you - in your body - already.
Path 2: Today's An Easy Day
Maybe today's easy because you spent the last month (or decade?) scheming on how to turn today into something truly magic. Maybe today's easy because a long-last friend is back in your life. Maybe today's easy for a reason you can't explain. Whatever the reason, today's an easy day.
Who can deny that easy is nice? So, take a deep breath and enjoyyyyyy this moment.
I won't take you away from your DOE (day of ease) for much longer. I did choose 2 cards for you, Easy Day Haver :) One is from a new tarot deck, called Gold Lyre. The other is from a deck I got at Marshall's this one time, called Mindful Mornings. Ready?
The 6 of Wands is like, rest! You achieved a dream, now rest in that feeling. You don't need to technically Write Down Three Things You Appreciate About Yourself. You can just think them or state them outloud to yourself or someone else. Enjoy!
